Jason Witten plays tight end for the Dallas Cowboys of the National Football League. He played college football at the University of Tennessee. As the Cowboys third round pick in 2003 (69th overall), Witten got off to a slow start as a rookie, catching just eight passes in his first eight games before turning things around in the second half of the season, when he tallied 27 receptions. In 2004, Witten was selected to the Pro Bowl, thanks to his 87 catches, which were eleventh most in history by a tight end and a Cowboys team record for the position. Witten was also named to his second and third Pro Bowls for his performance in the 2005 and 2006 regular seasons. He was named as an injury replacement for New York Giants tight end Jeremy Shockey for the 2007 Pro Bowl. Witten was named a starter for the 2008 Pro Bowl thanks to a high production year in 2007. On Sunday, October 26, in a game versus Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Witten left the game early, due to a rib injury. It was later diagnosed as a broken rib. Witten made his 400th career reception in the Cowboy's Thanksgiving Day game against the Seattle Seahawks on November 27, 2008. On July 22, 2006, he signed a six-year contract extension with Dallas through 2012.
